How writing helps you sleep (Perth Writers Festival 2013)

Feb 25, 2013 | Pondering Life

For anyone immune to the effects of counting sheep, umpteen cups of camomile or the swimmers choice Stilnox, stay tuned … I may have stumbled on an alternative solution.

Take around 120 top class writers and drop them into a celestial sandstone university setting. Invite them to generously share their knowledge, every hour on the hour from 9.30am to 8pm. Give the audience a thirty minute window to briskly walk from one talk to the next. Repeat for three days. The result … a brain teaming with the collective wisdom of local and international writers, illustrators, producers, directors and philosophers.

Throw in …

A flat tyre – thanks to all the development happening near the airport;
An inability to get back into your house on the first night – due to four sets of recalcitrant powerlines.

And there you have it …

After three nights with less than 5 hours sleep, I’m working on the theory that you’re bound to encounter ‘the sleep of kings’ on the fourth night, hopefully. If you don’t hear from me for a few days you’ll know my hypothesis has been proven correct.

So to everyone who have asked ‘how was it?’ … check back in a day or two for all the news from this year’s Perth Writers Festival.

Note: The inclusion of this photo is in on way implying that these, or any other speakers, put me to sleep, far from it, if that had been the case I wouldn’t be in this predicament, just saying.
