Tuner is a fun heist, romance movie, great for a first date movie or to just escape life for a while.

Movie Review Tuner_1280x850_ANZ
Niki White (Leo Woodall) spends his days tuning pianos. It wasn’t always that way, as a young boy he was a piano playing prodigy, a rare disability giving him perfect pitch. When that avenue closed due to his worsening disability, White was taken under the wing of Harry Horowitz (Dustin Hoffman) and taught how to tune pianos.
White appears happy with his lot travelling across New York fixing pianos and enjoying banter with father figure Horowitz. Then one day they land a job at an auditorium where he meets Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), a talented music student out to win a place with a revered maestro. Spurred on by Horowitz the pair grow closer.
When Horowitz becomes unwell and lacks medical cover to get the treatment he needs, White considers what he can do to repay the man who’s been like a father to him.
Turns out White’s tuning skills are perfectly aligned with the dubious art of safecracking and so what begins as a one-off job for a security colleague, soon turns into something much more, something that could take away everything that he holds dear.
As the credits rolled I pondered:
- Tuner is a heist romance movie that explores whether it’s right to do the wrong thing if it’s for the right reasons;
- Woodall does a good job as the insular White;
- It’s nice to see Hoffman on the big screen again;
- Tuner would make a perfect date movie.
Starts June 11th. For more information go to Luna Cinemas.
