The Party’s Over is not your usual upstairs, downstairs movie, it’s a hilarious dark comedy to seek out.

Movie The Partys Over
The Trousselard family own a stunning villa in the South of France which they holiday in three months of the year. The rest of the time it’s looked after by caretakers Tony (Ramzy Bedia) and Nadine (Laure Calamy) and their daughter Marylou (Mahia Zrouki).
On this particular holiday Phillippe Trousseland (Laurent Lafitte) and his wife Laurence (Elodie Bouchez) are joined by their daughter Garance (Noee Abita) and her boyfriend Mehdi El Glaoui (Sami Outalbali). Mehdi has recently graduated from law school and is looking forward to starting his internship. When that falls through, he must decide whether to suck up to Phillippe and ask for a place at his well-known law firm. That doesn’t sit well with Mehdi who comes from a modest background and has worked his own way through college.
One day as Tony and Nadine are celebrating their daughters twentieth birthday, Phillippe bursts in saying the kitchen sink needs fixing. This kind of overstepping the mark is not uncommon and after seven years Tony finally cracks. The result is a hilarious series of events as tables turn, manner crumble and relationships are tested. Mehdim, having a foot in both camps must use his newly acquired mediation skills to come to a solution, but at what cost to everyone involved including him?
As the credits rolled I pondered:
- The movie is a dark comedy about class, power and relationships;
- It’s a reminder about what creates happiness;
- All of the acting is excellent;
- If you think you can predict the ending you’re wrong, it’s not your average upstairs, downstairs tale;
- Lovely movie reprieve for our current times.
