If you need a break from all the world news, I recommend escaping into the latest movie offering from Looney Tunes Cartoons, The Day The Earth Blew Up.

The movie starts as an origin story where we see Porky Pig and Daffy Duck meet as infants on a farm. When the farmer passes away, he tells them that as long as they stick together, they’ll be fine. Oh, and that they must look after the farmhouse.
That promise quickly becomes an issue when during a routine home inspection the pair realize the roof is missing. The hole where the roof was is covered in green slime. With only ten days to fix the roof or lose their home forever, the intrepid pair set off to find out where the slime came from.
Meanwhile Petunia Pig is working in the Goodie Gum factory trying to invent the best flavoured gum, ever. A chance encounter with Porky sees the pair become a trio.
Daffy soon finds out the Earth is under threat from a bizarre alien bubblegum invasion, but no one believes him. When he finally convinces Porky, they must work together to save the world, without driving each other crazy in the process.
The movie is a delightful flashback about friendship, family, being brave and working together to overcome the odds. It left me pondering:
- Along the way the movie has loads of jokes to keep adults amused including comments about influencers, being cancelled and a familiar creature for those who’ve seen the Venom movies;
- It also explains how Porky got his stutter;
- Hearing the old Looney Tunes music bought back a flood of dopamine as did some of the vintage graphics;
- I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed hearing a panicked Daffy say “mother”.
