If you ever wondered what goes on between classes at school, the movie The Teachers’ Lounge, takes you on a thrilling ride where good intentions backfire spectacularly.
Carla Nowak (Leonie Benesch) finds herself at a new grammar school. All’s going well. She has a good group of students. However, a series of unsolved thefts sees her students searched and accusations fly.
Determined to get to the bottom of the issue Carla uses a hidden camera to uncover the thief.
The vision, though not clear, points to a staff member, who also happens to be the mother of Oskar (Leonard Stettnisch), Carla’s most gifted pupil.
What follows is a tangled mess of events threatening to destroy anyone remotely involved in the incident including Carla.
As the credits rolled I pondered:
- Benesch is great as the well-meaning but often bewildered Carla;
- The movie is a fascinating look at how even the best intentions can go badly astray;
- The ending will leave you pondering. It’s the kind of movie that you’ll want to discuss over coffee or a meal or even just in the bathroom queue.
