What’s not to love about Keanu Reeves latest installment, John Wick Chapter 4? It’s an epic 169 minute long fight scene that you can’t look away from for a second. A legendary John Wick dance with death, I’m already booking a second viewing. Congratulations Keanu.
After an absolutely epic opening that you can literally feel in your bones, we find John Wick (Keanu Reeves) still chasing his dream of freedom.
This time his fight with the High Table sees him taking on his most lethal adversaries, including some he considers close friends. It asks who can you really trust?
“Friendship means little when it’s convenient.”
Wick’s quest draws to a climax as he makes his way to a sunrise date with death. He knows the time. He knows the location. He knows the advisory, very well, and he knows the weapons they’ll be restricted to. How hard can it be?
But this is John Wick, the most sought-after scalp on the planet. As he makes his way to the destination, the price on his head skyrockets bringing every wannabe underworld bounty hunter out of hiding.
But as I said this is John Wick. You know everyone, and I mean everyone is in trouble when this Bond on steroids goes to war.
As the action mounted, I pondered:
- Occasionally you can judge a movie by its opening scene and this one is heart pounding. I urge you to see the movie on the big screen, you will literally feel the impact in your bones;
- The cinematography is absolutely stunning, from the low shot angles of a candlelit church to the glistening gold palace interiors and the dark, wet streets of Paris. Mesmerizing;
- Talking about Paris. The fight scene around the Arch de Triumph is worth a repeat screening. Seriously, I’m thinking of going again just to see that;
- Well okay not just to see that one scene, I also want a second serving of the internal fight shot from above using drone technology (okay I’m assuming it was a drone). Some things are so clever you wonder why you haven’t seen them before. I won’t give it away … enjoy;
- There are some nice call backs to earlier movies, but you don’t have to have seen them to enjoy this one;
- The reference to man’s best friend is perfect;
- Ultimately this is about John Wick who Reeves delivers to perfection yet again. Clearly the character and the actor deserve a well-earned cup of tea and a good lie down. Congratulations Keanu.
