Sometimes I’m in the mood for a comedy show, sometimes an art exhibition, so I was keen to hear that I can do both on July 19th at the Comedy Lounge. Comedian Sam Kissajukian will be performing and showing his exhibition “300 Painting in Lockdown”. This is the first time they have combined stand up comedy plus art, and the proceeds will help support Perth comedians.
Comedian Sam Kissajukian will be performing stand-up for 2 weekends culminating in the debut of Sam’s combined comedy show and visual art exhibition extravaganza for one night only on July 19th.
This will be the first time the Comedy Lounge has ever hosted an art exhibition. Furthermore, 50% of all proceeds are going towards a travel fund that supports Perth comedians with travel expenses to help them perform overseas.
Among the exhibition includes paintings of local Perth comedians, Fremantle, Northbridge and the first WA venue Sam performed comedy in 10 years ago: The National Hotel.
Sam Kissajukian is an accomplished comedian well known for his comedy Fringe World shows “Alcohol is good for you” and “Life drawing with a comedian”. His transformation into a visual artist was sudden and unexpected. Initially it was just to survive the challenges of covid lockdowns and what he later learned was a “manic episode”. In under 12 months of painting, Sam’s art has already been acquired by international collectors such as Ben Rattray, CEO of Change.org.He’s also been invited to show his works as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival in Art Gallery “107 projects” this September.
Although based in Sydney, Sam considers Perth his second home, so he wanted to hold his first public exhibition at the venue he loves performing most- the Comedy Lounge.
