Eventually all good things come to an end and so it was with the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. There was an international model, a well known local footballer, uber-stylish audience members indulging in front row hopping, but all that didn’t match up to the surprise cavalcade of designers walking the runway at the end. A perfect end to an inspiring week.

As the who’s who of Perth settled into the front row, the night began with home grown international model Nicole Trunfio.

What followed was a procession of 100 unique looks, each one helping define WA’s unique style, whether it be a reflection of the past or a glimpse into the future. They, just, kept, coming.

Homegrown labels from the past two decades were pulled from archives and revisited or debuted for the first time.

Amongst the Stars were showstoppers Empire Rose, Zhivago, Ae’lkemi, One Fell Swoop, Flannel, Morrison and Dilettante. The Statements included newer labels such as Monster Alphabets, Jonte, Wild Horses, ILKA, Reign Of Label, Maricel and Hooded Wept.

The Legends were WA fashion staples past and present, including Aurelio Costarella, Wheels And Dollbaby, Parker & Co, Megan Salmon, 33POETS, Elle Boutique, Periscope, Varga Girl, Adam Heath, Morgan Marks and Sophie Kyron.
It was nice and very sad to see the nod to Ruth Tarvydas, a timely reminder with RU OK day held in the same week.

Prior to the event, Festival Director Ms Harvey-Hanrahan had said …
“For TPFF’s milestone 20th year, we have worked tirelessly to seek out the freshest up-andcomers and dive into the archives of WA’s beloved designers for a showcase that will be varied, dynamic and enchanting. We are celebrating brand WA with a show of epic proportions, set to firmly cement the State as a global fashion destination with an abundance of creative talent. Whether it’s delving into history’s wardrobe or exploring the latest trends currently available in stores, this is an event not to be missed – a true fashion moment for WA.”
Indeed it was, and the crowd loved it.
Fremantle Docker Nat Fyfe received a huge cheer.

But that was nothing compared to the standing ovation as many of the well-known designers walked down the runway, culminating with the much loved power couple from Wheels and Dolls. It was a wonderful surprise. I hope they all had fun hiding out backstage prior to the reveal. Here’s hoping some interesting future co-labs were discussed.

Then it was onto the after party, which thankfully had been set up next to the runway, as opposed to the Victory Room in previous nights, which though lovely proved to be a long walk in high shoes.

Congratulations to all involved in this years Festival. It was a privilege to be a part of it and get a sneak peek from the inside to watch the well-oiled machine at work. I’d also like to thank the staff at Optus Stadium, particularly the security staff who went above and beyond to make sure people got back to their cars.
