“What’s the one thing you can’t live without?”
We’ve all seen the footage of Cambodian children grasping tiny cups or new toothbrushes as tightly as other children fondle new bikes or computer consoles. Local father Lincoln Fenner has also seen this vision.

“As a father, that really got to me. I kept reflecting on that throw away sentence we all use, ‘I can’t live without this or that’, and wondered what those kids would say if they were asked. I was sure the answer wasn’t going to be ‘my plasma TV.”
Lincoln took a year off work and travelled the world asking this one question across five continents, stopping in London, Los Angeles, New York, Kenya and Cambodia to name a few. The result … his thought provoking documentary More 4 Me.
Early on in this blogs life you may recall me writing about attending, or not attending, the premier of this movie. The Perth premier attracted 600 media/VIP guests and began with a totally unrelated bomb scare (read post life paused). The documentary gained 100% positive feedback thereby prompting the local Piccadilly Cinema to run it for 16 more sessions. This alone raised $12,000, not bad for a self funded locally made documentary hey?
The film has just been selected for the New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF).
It’s also been nominated for best documentary feature, and if that’s not enough,,,,,,
three of its five screenings will be in Times Square.
“What I really want to do is make films that will positively impact on the world”, Lincoln explained, “With 75% of the profits going to the aid organisations shown in the film, I know the more people see it the better the outcome will be for everyone.”
The Ponder Room isn’t really into advertising however on this occasion we’re happy to say that the International Premier will be held on Saturday August 20th 6pm at Tribeca Cinema 1 Tribeca Cinemas 54 Varick St New York. The festival runs from August 18 to 28. For more information go to the website More 4 Me and tickets can be obtained at NYCIFF tickets
After watching the DVD, Lincolns efforts left me pondering …

How fortunate I am to have been born in Australia

Aside from the core messages of mosquito nets, livestock, water purifiers, and education (via xo laptops), for me the film also highlights that you don’t have to be a well known director with piles of cash to make a movie that impacts on others lives. More 4 Me was self funded.

What’s more living in Perth, the most isolated city in the world, is no reason to think you can’t have an impact on the world.

Has someone inadvertently dropped a vat of ‘creativity juice’ into the WA water supply recently?
