It’s not often your front yard gets turned into an airstrip but that’s exactly what happened during Heritage Week. I was minding my own business when all of a sudden I looked out the window and saw these …

The crowd was surprisingly small considering the rarity of planes landing on Langley Park these days. Those who did come to look at the planes were well rewarded, being able to get up close and in some cases place their first borns into the drivers seat … cont.

As I walked amongst the beautiful flying machines I pondered …

  1. Wouldn’t it be great to walk outside your door, hop on a plane and take off to Margaret River or Rottnest?
  2. I can’t begin to imagine the courage it took to get into one of these planes all those years ago.
  3. As they took off … was the smoke billowing out of one of the oldest planes fake, signwriting smoke or real smoke? Given the age of the plane, what the plane was used for, and the guttural sounds coming from the engine, I doubted it had been equipped to write love notes in the sky over enemy bases, nor advertise the latest Brylcreem alternative.
  4. A huge thank you to whoever organised this, hopefully it will become an annual event.
