Some of you may already know that I’m now contributing to TweetPerth.com woohoo! (more on that later). So you may have already read my post about going behind the scenes at Sexpo and meeting the organiser David Ross. It was a fantastic experience. If not check it out here. As I said in the earlier Tweet Perth post 35,000 people attended Sexpo, the World’s Largest Adult Health Sexuality and Lifestyle show, at the Perth Convention Centre. In my interview with David Ross he pointed out that in developing the show they aimed to create a non-threatening, friendly, educational environment, which I found to be very true both out front and backstage.
‘When people come here they see other people who are into the same thing as them. They think I’m not the only one … We give them permission to leave their inhabitations behind at the door … We invite people who think it’s just a sex show to come have a look and they are surprised.’ David Ross.
My backstage view began with watching the artists warm up.

Then it was time for one of the main attractions, Hollywood, whose extremely professional act lived up to his name, especially when balancing his three volunteer helpers.

I was also intrigued to see how his ‘helpers’ were treated after the act. It was pleasing to see that they were treated respectfully and weren’t just sent on their way.

As I left the backstage area and wandered amongst the couples (60% of the crowd) there was a lot to ponder, too much to put into one post, so stay tuned for another Sexpo post next week. In the meantime my backstage pass left me pondering …
- It reminded me of past years spent judging body building competitions, all of these performers could do very well in that environment if the haven’t already;
- I’d hate to see what their diet is, I bet it involves a lot of egg whites;
- Sexpo sells backstage passes and I can attest to the experience being well worth it. Other events would do well to follow this example … with backstage tickets I mean.
