When pondering about his piece celebrated artist Alqaragholli called it God’s Chair.
Situated in Forrest Walk this piece has already proved extremely popular with people of all ages clambering all over it.

According to Aqaragholli when he arrived in Perth he was struck by the green environment, very different from his homeland. On a trip into Jacksons Drawing Supplies to buy some clay, he found lots of happy people.
‘Happy people …people with blue eyes and blonde hair … like angels.’
When I asked him about the chair he explained that it was God’s Seat … with an angel on each shoulder, decisions being made about who gets into paradise.
If some aspects of the work look familiar, you may have also seen Aqaraghollis’ work in Sculpture by the Sea. This year he has a large piece at the end of the groin (opps groyne). He also has many pieced exhibited around the world.
While I wasn’t quite ready to sit in the chair and receive judgement, I was left pondering how worthwhile it is to keep asking questions. If I hadn’t pushed through shyness and asked, I’d never have heard this great story. It definitely had me looking at the seat in a different light … maybe you will too now when you see it.
