Do you really want to be famous? (A view from behind the scenes)

A few months ago I was at a media launch. Usual thing everyone starts to arrive, finds their position and then wait for things to kick off. Soon the formal proceedings have finished and it’s time for each media outlet to get their own winning shots. Most of the time it’s a well-manner affair, especially in a town like Perth where you know you’ll be seeing the same people at the next function. Still these events always leave me pondering …

I can understand that if you’re the spokesperson for a company this is a necessary part of your job. But other than that I can’t work out why anyone would put themselves through such an ordeal. Imagine having all those cameras trained on you and one minute to get your point across. Not only do your comments have to be conveyed clearly, with the appropriate amount of wit or sincerity, they also have to be factually correct.

I’m sure my brain would freeze up and completely forget everything other than my name, bra size and what I had for breakfast. All factually correct no doubt, but hardly something I need to declare to the nation.

As I watch on I usually find myself pondering about all those people hungry for fame. It’s with them in mind that I thought I’d show you what fame looks like from the other side, and this is only a small media pack.

So what do you think … still interested?
