Four ways to cope when you are in the ‘hottest place on the planet’

Western Australia, or Perth in particular, is well known for being isolated, but it’s not often we get dubbed the ‘best in the world’ for something. This weekend we achieved that by being heralded the ‘hottest place on the planet’. To be fair the accolade went to an inland town rather than Perth itself, but that’s just splitting (frizzled) hairs, when it gets to be this hot. So I hear you pondering, how do you cope on a 44 degree day? …

Look shady

Gravitate towards even the smallest piece of shade, even if it’s attached to a chair that appears to be melting.

Avoid the movies

Most sensible people flock to the cinemas, however personal experience tells me this isn’t always a good idea, especially when the extreme heat induces a suburb-wide power cut that closes down the cinema.

Be kind to your generators

In 44 degrees generators are your best friend, even better than a deep freezer or ice crusher. Treat them kindly and they will reward you for years.

Search for an interplanetary rotator

Keep your eye out for an interplanetary rotator. Whilst hard to find, as you can see they do exist. If driven with the correct amount of passion and force these rarely seen gadgets can put the planet back in balance …

And so it was that the 44 degree day faded away, and our frozen friends in the northern hemisphere could finally turn on their taps and extricate their cars from mountains of snow.
