If you’re looking for a cute movie for the little ones this school holidays check out Ainbo Amazon Princess. With an environmental focus and a message about being strong and not “just a girl” it will do well amongst little girls in particular.
Set in the Amazon Rainforest we meet Ainbo a 13 year old orphan who has a strong brave good heart. She dreams of being a great hunter like her mother was. She’s best friends with the village chiefs daughter Zumi and together they explore the forest.
Recently the chief has been concerned that the fish are dying and his people are getting sick. They think it’s due to a curse, however further into the forest we see illegal miner at work led by evil dark spirit Yacaruna. As the chief’s health worsens he passes on the village leadership to Zumi.
One day Ainbo is playing deep in the bush where she meets her Spirit Guides, “Dillo” a cute and humorous armadillo and “Vaca” a goofy oversized tapir. They explain to her why the forest is in trouble and that she must seek out the Giant Turtle that carries the Amazon on her back. But when Ainbo tries to explain this to Zumi and the village she is laughed at and banished.
Guided by her mother’s spirit Ainbo and her two trusty guides set out on a quest to trace to great river and save the Amazon.
There is plenty to keep the kids occupied, especially the cute little turtles and some laughs along the way for the adults.
