Everybody needs a place to runaway and recharge their batteries. For me that’s often in a hotel foyer. The aptly named Haven Lounge in the Westin Hotel East Perth has become my latest hideout. Just before Covid hit, I even let some friends into my secret.

Stepping into the Haven you can automatically feel your shoulders slip down. The decor helps. The friendly greeting from the staff add to a feeling that you’ve returned home.

The day I invited my friends we decided to sit outside on the deck. It was a stunning day with a light breeze wafting through.

One of my guests only had an hour for lunch so we got down to ordering quick smart. Two of them couldn’t go past the duck salad. Served on a gorgeous plate both diners said the duck was delicious and the portion size perfect.

Meanwhile I picked a dish called “tuna on toast”. I can tell you it was nothing like your average tuna on toast you make at home. The toast was crunchy and the tuna creamy. The dish was beautifully presented, a lesson to everyone about the difference presentation can make. Will definitely pick this one again.

This is one to check out, assuming we’re not in lockdown.
