Movie Review: Die In A Gunfight

If you’re partial to a Romeo and Juliet tale you may want to check out the latest incarnation in the movie, Die In A Gunfight. If you’re partial to Travis Fimmel you’ll definitely want to take a look.

The movie gets the audience up to speed with a backstory of the main character Ben Gibbon (Diego Boneta), the black sheep son in a rich New York family. Ben’s wayward ways are triggered by his desire to “feel” again after the love of his life was taken away from him years ago. He is left to hope that he’ll end his days “dying in a gunfight”.

His teen love, Mary Rathcart (Alexandra Daddario) is the daughter of a similarly wealthy family. A family that just so happens to be in a feud with his dating back to 1864.

While all seems lost for Ben we are shown he is redeemable when he gate-crashes a family party and steals coats from the entitled throng, only to hand them out to street sleepers. After his good deed he heads to a nightclub only to bump into Mary.

As their love is rekindled the parents find out and a deal is struck with Terrence (Justin Chatwin) another of Mary’s admirers. Rid the world of Ben, and win Mary’s hand in marriage. Terrence accepts the challenge and engages the unhinged Wayne (Travis Fimmel) to do the deed.

The movie flashes between real life characters and comic form narrated by Billy Crudup. It is an interesting way to speed through plot points although it can also make the timeline confusing.

Fimmel was a delight to watch as the crazed killer and it’s nice to be reminded about how good Viewmasters were.
