The We Don’t Deserve Dogs movie is on a short run from August 5 to 15th. Make sure you get to see this thought-provoking documentary about the universality of dogs and how much they bring to our lives. Whether you’re a dog lover or not you’ll be moved by the unique stories told.
The movie introduces us to every day people across 11 countries including; Chile, Uganda, Peru, Italy, Turkey, Pakistan, Finland, Romania, Vietnam, Nepal and Scotland. There we hear heart-warming stories about:
- Street dogs that are ‘owned’ and loved by the whole community;
- Trauma dogs that help former child soldiers;
- Truffle hunting dogs;
- Dogs that help with anxiety and PSTD;
- Others providing much needed hugs at Disability Centres;
- Loyal Shepard dogs;
- Much pampered pouches; and
- “Reading Dogs” that help children learn to read.
As the stories are told the dogs can often be seen lying in the background or walking slowly behind their owners, seemingly oblivious of all the attention.
The stories that have stayed with me the longest were: the dogs that helped child soldiers with their PTSD, the roaming Shepards wondering about the future of their profession and one confronting story which I’ll leave you to find out.
Caution there will be tears.
