Restaurant Review: Lot One Kitchen

It’s not too often that I venture away from the city for dinner these days, however my recent visit to modern Australian restaurant, Lot One Kitchen in Hillary’s, was well worth the trip.

With winter in the air the outdoor area had already been packed up, even though I noted a few blankets on hand. I like to see this edition as these restaurants always seem to go the extra mile in other ways. Inside was a cute haven of warmth and chic that offered a range of seating options. We arrived early to find a loving couple camped to one side in the bench area. After a while a large birthday party arrived and set up in the middle of the restaurant. Throughout the night we were all accommodated without feeling on top of each other.

I chose the pasta option which was packed with sweet pumpkin, tomatoes and a heap of garlic prawns. I’m happy to say the pasta was perfectly cooked and more importantly the plate wasn’t overloaded with pasta. To my mind there’s nothing worse than having a truckload of pasta left with nothing to go with it.

One friend opted for the Lot One burger which boasted a double beef pattie, smoked cheddar, onion jam and spinach. He said it was the perfect size. He was also taken with the fact that the plate wasn’t overloaded with too many chips (can you have too many chips?). He was talking about the popular action of having way more chips than burger. I can vouch for the crispiness of the chips.

My other guest chose this treat. To be completely honest I can’t recall what it was but I know it was a hit with my friend.

All meals were great quality and value. The service was just the right amount of hovering.

Lot One Kitchen was well worth the trip. I’m sure it would be lovely to sit out on the deck during summer. In fact I read that the restaurant gets really busy in the hotter months so there’s another reason for a winter visit.
