Movie Review: Cold Pursuit Liam Neeson

0

Cold Pursuit is the latest movie from Liam Neeson. Given that making a movie involves hundreds of people I like to review them on merit, not on comments one actor may have said. So what did I think of Cold Pursuit?

The movie opens with quietly spoken Nels Coxman (Liam Neeson) winning a community award. Every day he hops into his huge snowplow,  and takes off on a solo mission to ensure the community is not cut off.  With a wife and grown son, his life seems simple.

All was well until one day his son dies of a drug overdose, a son who definitely avoided drugs. Coxman sets out for revenge. Well it wouldn’t be a Neeson movie if he didn’t would it?

The body count soon rises into double figures, yes double figures. Thanks to his work he knows where to hide the corpses. As the death count rises it soon becomes apparent that this is not your average Neeson revenge movie. This is a black comedy.

Coxman’s search takes him up the chain to drug lord Viking (Tom Bateman). Meanwhile the police are on his heals. So too a rival drug gang. Will he get away with it?

As the credits rolled I pondered:

  1. Take Reservoir Dogs add a touch of Fargo, a Trojan Horse and you have Cold Pursuit;
  2. While there are funny parts, unlike Fargo or the original 2014 movie ‘In Order of Disappearance’, the humour sometimes feels forced and  misses the mark on more than one occasion.
  3. The scenery is stunning.
  4. Good for a giggle.
