A quick decision to catch up for lunch saw our group of three ladies drop into the gorgeous Italian restaurant, Gucce, in Applecross. While parking can be an issue the food and service were well worth it.
Ardross Street in Applecross is a bit of a foodies heaven. Gucce is situated a little bit away from the main clutch of restaurants, which is a good thing.
First impressions, the black, white and wood decor is inviting. Even without tablecloths it feels upmarket. It instantly turned a quick lunch into something that felt more like a special occasion.
Two of us picked the spaghetti marinara. Unlike most, the plate offered up a plentiful variety of seafood, instead of an overload of pasta. The homemade pasta was slithers of silky deliciousness. It was however a little overloaded with pippies. The clams also seem so much work for little reward. Plus they’re not the most delicate option when lunching with a pair of refined ladies. I should have known better, but my stomach had taken control once I opened the menu.
Our other friend chose the blackened salmon, which she said was good, albeit slightly overcooked.
Sadly the size and depth of the pasta left no room for dessert and you know what that means … another visit is required.
The service was excellent, though admittedly there was only one other table of patrons in the restaurant, so you would expect good service. We did however appreciate being left alone, not hovered over. The chef was more than happy to adjust the meals to suit some dietary requirements, which is always a good sign.
As we finally exhausted our conversations, paid, and walked back to our cars I pondered:
- I’ll definitely be taking some others to experience this one;
- The huge pizza oven looks inspiring for next time;
- If only they could do something about the parking.
