What better way to spend Bastille Day than in a restaurant right? Especially when it’s a French restaurant, with French waiters, French music, French food something like … Chez Pierre in Nedlands.
Lunch started with a bit of a car park jostle. The potential for bad moods was high, however the restaurant had cleverly enlisted french waiters to direct patrons. Inside the restaurant was decked out in red, white and blue balloons and a map of the Tour de France in case you felt the need to map out your course for next year.
First up an Amuse Bouche (mushroom soup) to wake up the taste-buds. The intensity meant there was no mistaking the contents.
We bypassed the snails. Yes I know, but a past encounter on a school excursion that resulted in many hours spent in the smallest room, has stayed with me since school. Mind you the advantage of not having to raise our hand to leave the classroom softens the memory.
I picked the crepe instead and was rewarded with a tightly packed parcel full of seafood goodness and smothered with a rich cheese sauce. To be honest I could have gone straight to dessert after this.
Thankfully I had chosen the lighter fish served with asparagus for the main. It was the prefect follow up after the rich starters.
Desserts? Profiteroles naturally and a creme caramel. Both spectacular examples of these classic dishes, as you would expect. Both shared between us you couldn’t let your partner not experience them.
The leisurely lunch was a wonderful experience, and a near perfect way to spend Bastille Day.
