Movie Review: Two Is A Family

For this movie I could simply tell you that Two Is A Family was the most popular French-language film in 2017 … worldwide. But I just have to rave a bit more. What an utterly gorgeous, moving story. Please don’t miss it.

Thanks to Two Is A Family

The action starts on Côte d’Azur with playboy Samuel (Omar Sy) living the dream, sun, money, parties and girls, lots of girls .

Enter Kristin (Clémence Poésy) just one of the Sam’s many conquests, and she has something to return to Sam. As she races off in a taxi Sam is left holding the baby, literally, his daughter Gloria (Gloria Colston).

Samuel drops everything and rushes to the airport to return the bundle but Kristin evades him. He jumps on the next flight and starts tracking down Kirstin through the items she’e left behind in a bag.

While he has no luck finding Kirstin he does chance on a job as a television stuntman, and it isn’t long before Gloria has worked her charm.

The movie works through the next eight years with the father-daughter developing a deeply loving bond. But then …

Kristin reappears.

I won’t tell you anymore, other than you’ll go on a delightful ride, with loads of humour.

As I sat in the dark trying to dissipate the lump in my throat and odd tear in the eye, I pondered:

  1. I love a movie that can take you through the whole gambit of emotions;
  2. Besides the movie you could simply go to check out the design of the family loft. It’s a child’s paradise. Who wouldn’t love snuggling into a giant blue elephant;
  3.  All of the performances are exquisit. I’ve followed Clémence Poésy in the Tunnel, or is it the Bridge I always get them muddled up, so it was great to watch her in a different role. And how could you not fall in love with Omar Sy;
  4. Even the opening groovy credits are worth watching;
  5. It’s not often the theatre is filled with loud applause at the end;
  6. Simply beautiful.
