Edie is one of the most delightful, inspiring movies you will see, and I really hope you make time to see it. Sheila Hancock is simply magnificent.
Having cared for her husband for thirty years Edie (Sheila Hancock) must reassess her life when he passes. How will this seemingly frame senior spend her time?
Her daughter is all set to move Edie out of the large family home into a care facility, but Edie has other plans. Earlier in her life, pre-husband, she had dreams of climbing a Scottish mountain. An old postcard from her father reminds her of the saying ‘it’s never too late’.
Against her daughter’s wishes, she heads to Scotland and employs camping shop owner Jonny (Kevin Guthrie ) to help her get the right equipment. Short on money Jonny reluctantly agrees to ‘train’ Edie for the gruelling climb. Over time they draw closer and soon reveal more about their lives to each other.
Sheila Hancock plays Edie beautifully and the relationship between her and Jonny looks so real you can’t help think it would be the same between Sheila and Kevin.
When a walk turns into a mountain climb, octogenarian Edie really takes on the ‘never too late’ philosophy.
This is one not to miss for so many reasons:
- The scenery in Scotland Highlands are stunning;
- The life and wisdom etched into Sheila’s face looks beautiful on the large screen;
- It is unbelievable to think that Sheila at 81 years young, actually climbed the mountain. Though I’ve heard she didn’t know that was going to happen when she took the role. This makes the story Inspirational times two.
