Zafferano Restaurant consistently high class

A few years ago our family booked this restaurant for a significant birthday. It was a brilliant night where the staff went above and beyond on every level. At the time I promised I’d write a review. Life continued on and I never got around to it. So I was very pleased when I was offered a return visit this month and even happier to be on the end of another top experience. Consistency your name is Zafferano.

First thing you notice about the restaurant is the stunning view across the Swan River back to the city skyline. Then there’s the decor, something out of an old fashioned Hollywood movie.

Once settled, our trio started with crisp, buttery, garlic bread which didn’t last long enough to take a photo. This was followed with the modern Mediterranean choices of:

Oysters Kilpatrick, sweet oysters covered in a layer of bacon.

Seafood chowder, a rich creamy generous chowder housing snapper, scallops, mussels, baby spinach, star anise and supported with not one but three crusty bread offerings.

The seafood pasta special, which was quickly dubbed one of the best. It’s not often the ratio of pasta to seafood falls on the side of the seafood. Prawns, scallops, lobster and a light creamy sauce.

The third guest chose the fish, grilled pink snapper, which had a crisp outer layer and was served with a rhubarb chutney, lemon, olive oil. We all shared a side of truffle oiled mashed potato.

Every dish was exquisite, and I’d gladly make a return visit for any one of them.

I can’t finish without mentioning the service which was absolutely second to none on both occasions.

As I ponder the whole experience, the best way to sum it up is to say:

If you have a guest you want to impress this is the place;
If you have a fussy guest, you know the type, this is the place;
If you want to hide away and give yourself a special treat one lunch time, this is the place;
While the restaurant has stunning views, it doesn’t have to rely on these, The food and service stand on their own;
Hoping I don’t have to wait too long before I return.
