Perfect Strangers Movie Review

How long have you known your friends? Five years, ten years maybe more. Perhaps you all went to school together, attended each others weddings or have watched your children grow into adults. You know everything about them right? Hmm. Do you really? Perfect Strangers movie will leave you pondering if that is so.

One night a group of seven friends meet for a catch up dinner. Seven friends in their forties, three couples and one bachelor. Not long into the evening some suggests they place their mobile phones in the centre of the table. Any phone calls that come in have to be put on speakerphone without the caller being informed that everyone’s listening. Similarly any texts have to be read out. Simple right?

Things start out fine, the first call has everyone holding their breaths until its innocence is revealed. However it’s not long before the calls and texts become more complex and multiple secrets are revealed. Has anyone not got a secret? Throw in a feisty teenager and things move from comedy and drama to heartache.

It’s difficult to talk about this fantastic movie for fear of giving out spoilers. I can say that the ensemble cast of fine Italian actors was wonderful.

The story moved along at a strong pace giving me no time to relax from my end of seat position. There were so many turns and surprises. The fold back ending was interesting and unexpected.

Several weeks later I was still talking about and pondering on some elements of the movie …

  1. How well do I really know my friends?
  2. Would any of them put their own lives in jeopardy to save someone else in the group?
  3. Think The Big Chill with a side order of modern technology.
  4. Make sure you keep an eye out for this one, it’s a must. Don’t take my word for it, look at al the awards it’s won.
