I don’t get up to Joondalup very often but will definitely be going back now I’ve experienced this little gem, The Buttery Café and Homewares.
A quick lunchtime business meeting was soon side-tracked into breakfast when I saw the menu. Poached eggs and mushrooms were the go. My companion ordered a side of hash browns and though I’m not a great fan of the usually greasy triangular potato offering, today I was feeling it.
When the plate was put down on the table I was delighted to see three huge, what I call ‘real’ mushrooms, not small butter-laden champignons. But it was the hash browns that were the clincher, these were not the usual small, crunchy triangles. Instead was a mound of freshly grated, toasted, crunchy potato in the middle of the plate.
After breakfast, I mean lunch, I went into the gift shop which was full of wonderful children’s toys and other unusual knick-knacks …
While the food was great and the gift shop interesting, it was the exceptional service which really brought it home. The Buttery is a family run business and it shows. It felt like I’d gone home for lunch.
As I ponder about my first visit to The Buttery …
- I know in my heart of hearts that the standard hash browns are now dead to me.
- I also know that I’ll be going back and taking friends with me.
- And yes I didn’t make it out without buying a gift.
