Perth café scene is certainly taking off, so much so that I now find myself heading out to one café only to be side-tracked by another. This was the case a couple of weeks ago when I ended up at Grantham St. Café.
Some of you may remember the cute café on Grantham Street that was overrun with knitters. Yes knitters. Anyway it was a cute concept, and I thought I’d check out how it was going. When I got there I found it had changed hands hmmm.
I’m very pleased to report that the new café is every bit a great place to hide out and relax. Devoid of cupboards stocked with wool and other knitting paraphernalia the café feels a lot bigger and brighter.
The décor is young and eclectic, a mix of vintage lights, and different seating options.
I especially love what they have done to the front, very clever.
There’s a small range of gifts.
And the food? I ordered the vegetarian breakfast at about 1.30pm which is always a good sign. While the colour scheme was interesting the taste was superb, who knew Brussel sprouts could taste so good. It could have been called ‘Green Eggs and Ham … without the ham’.
As I sat watching the passing parade I pondered:
- I can see this corner store café being extremely popular and hard to get into on the weekend.
- The café wouldn’t look out of place on the Leederville strip, but how nice to see it in another suburb.
- It was nice to watch some of the regular old knitting crowd being welcomed in.
- In marketing terms the café has an opportunity to become a great community hub, a spot for intergenerational connections and the passing on of wisdom, if the previous knitting crowd doesn’t get edged out. Wouldn’t that be a fine thing.
