After being missing in action for the past month I finally came out to play, first stop the Robbie Williams, Let Me Entertain You tour. Wow what a way to re-enter the real world.
I must admit I wasn’t a massive fan prior to the concert. Sure I knew all his hits and would sing along whenever they can on the radio, but I hadn’t gone so far as adding them to my collection. The concert has definitely changed all that.
I knew it would be a great show, you only have to see him interviewed to know he’s a born entertainer. Because of that I thought the show would probably be made up of a few great songs and a lot of time spent bantering with the audience. I was wrong.
Robbie (yes he’s Robbie now) puts the Eveready Bunny to shame, along with a lot of performers half his age. He blasted onto stage, after a clever intro technique that had the whole audience primed before he arrived. He then spent the next two hours preforming back to back hits with barely a moment to catch your breath in between, I’m talking about us now not him. The show began in a frenzy I was worried I wouldn’t be able to maintain it.
Thankfully things quietened down in the middle with some tender moments including a heart-warming duet which I’ll keep secret for future concert goers. The song for his son was another highlight.
Aside from the backup singers on stage, Robbie had a couple of hundred more sitting right around the Perth Arena. It was like one of those Evangelist church concerts you see on the tellie.
While the light show was extraordinary, there was no massive staging, no flying through the air, just great music performed by a supreme performer and the whole audience.
As I sat in the traffic on the way home listening to ‘Let Me Entertain You’ playing on the radio I pondered …
- A Robbie Williams concert should be compulsory viewing for all X Factor entrants, it was a 101 0n how to put on a show and have the audience eating out of your hand from the very first moment
- If he comes to your town … just go!
