For several months now I’ve driven past a café and been intrigued about what lay inside. Last week I finally managed to check it out and what a surprise. I don’t know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn’t what I experienced.
I guess the cute Japanese styled fish logo should have been a hint but I didn’t expect to walk into a Korean/Japanese restaurant. That was the first surprise.
Next was the design which was more restaurant than café plus a nice sized outdoor section where you can sit and watch the world go by.
As soon as I stepped in I was captured by the artwork, fantastic. It certainly sits well in the new Northbridge which is slowly becoming festooned with the work of International street artists. Even the tables had their own unique designs courtesy of some interesting collages.
Tearing myself away from the art I eventually managed to order. It was an interesting menu including drinks topped with Fairy Floss!
Since I was inbetween lunch and dinner I opted for the prawn tempura with curry dish. When delivered to the table it was a huge portion that I couldn’t finish and for less than $20. Bargain! Three crispy fresh prawns, a tasty curry and a bonus side salad what’s not to like.
The service was also at restaurant level, knowledgeable and friendly. I asked if they had the daily paper, they didn’t but soon one miraculously appeared on my table.
While I was there a $10 million dollar property deal was going down on the table next to me, and it was impressive to watch the staff deliver the right amount of service without getting in the way.
As I ate a mandarin for dinner I pondered …
- No doubt this cafe will be a big hit with the students studying nearby, but I’m sure the clientele will extend well beyond this segment.
- I wish the hardworking team behind this cute restaurant every success.
- And I can’t wait to try out the Fairy Floss options.
- Go for the art or the food … just go. More artwork coming up on my Instagram account.
