First impressions count on Tweet Perth

I’m absolutely thrilled to have joined a team of 40 ‘well-known Perth Bloggers’ contributing to Tweet Perth.com.au. Anyone who’s been to my Personal Branding workshops will know my take on the importance of first impressions, so what should my first blog on this new platform be about?

Being given the freedom to write whatever you want sounds great right? But what topic would you pick for that all important first piece? Done correctly it’ll inspire people to come back to see what else you have to say. Done poorly and you can kiss your chances of an ongoing audience goodbye. If you have a specific niche like food or fashion it could make life a little easier, but what if you have all the topics in the world to choose from. What would you pick?

Perhaps I should’ve drawn on my years in business and written an intellectual piece about marketing or branding.

Or maybe a piece about writing a book or blogging?

Instead, for some weird reason I found myself writing about sex, something I have absolutely no authority to comment on, well no more than anyone else. What’s more I focused on the not so delicate topic of Sexpo. See piece here

So what impression have I left I ponder … that of an open-minded lover of life or a pervert who should definitely not be sent on any more assignments?

Thankfully the piece proved popular, which may say something about my likeminded readers of Tweet Perth (Could it be that I’ve finally found my ‘people’).

So now I sit pondering about the next piece. What should I follow up with?

A piece about the new Russell Brand movie that focuses on the financial crisis or one about the Dalai Lama’s recent visit to Perth. At least with the Dalai Lama I might have a chance of balancing out my karma, if not totally confusing my new audience.

When you get a mo check out Tweet Perth, there’s a great team of people behind it and they’re already getting noticed (e.g. pieces in Campaign Brief and The West Australian) now that’s a good first impression.
