Mother’s Day … after years of worrying, advising, fixing, hugging, dressing, feeding and burping (of their offspring naturally … although after one too many champers ?!?) surely they’ve earned a day off. Just one day to put their feet up and be pampered. Just a day. This year it seemed even this one day of sloth wasn’t to be.
Now, on their one day off mothers are expected to …
- pack up the family;
- get them all out the door and into the family car early on a Sunday morning;
- find a car park in the CBD;
- unload the car;
- get the family down to Langley Park for the registration at 7am and then …
- run, walk or push a pram 4km down Riverside Drive … and back.
As I watched the hundreds of mum’s go past I pondered …
- Whatever happened to that one day off?
- Is there no end to their selflessness?
- Once again mothers were putting themselves second, third or fourth, this time putting the needs of a charity ahead of their own;
- To all the mum’s out there, especially those currently standing on blistered feet while preparing the evening meal, surely next year you deserve a day on the couch or better still the massage table.
Happy Mother’s Day and congratulations to organisers Women in Super and National Breast Cancer Foundation for another successfully run event, the Minutes Silence and Tribute Wall are wonderfully touching ideas. To find out more about this event go to Mother’s Day Run Perth
