Anzac 100 years on

0

The past few days have presented several opportunities to ponder the determination, courage and mateship shown by the ANZACs, not least of which was the sunset service held at Kings Park on Friday night. This year saw twice as many people attend the service as last year which made the silence all the more palpable. Here are a few photos from the service.

As people began camping out (some as early as 3pm) the Scout Rovers started patrolling the obelisk.

In teams of four they marched around it for 30 minutes before being relieved by the next team. They did this all night. It was wonderful to see the look of pride on their faces.

On Saturday as I pondered Anzac Day one image summed up everything for me … these two little boys playing kick to kick. It reminded me of the freedom that we’ve gained thanks to those who went before us. It was a delight to watch the whole of Sutherland Dianella Primary School spend the day near the memorial learning about Anzac Day, eating lunch and skipping rope …

As if to solidify our idyllic lifestyle at the end of the sunset service this winged fellow dropped in. We will remember them.
