Social bravery – Why not have a date night with yourself?

2

While watching people arrive for the 2015 Hopman Cup Ball a lovely lady approached me asking what was going on. Our chat reminded me about the value of getting out and living life to the full, even if no one wants to join you.

The lady (I won’t reveal her name) had bought a last minute ticket to the preview of Les Miserable, which was on at the theatre next door to the ball. By requesting a single ticket only she’d obtained a seat in a prime position. As she relayed her story I pondered …

  1. I greatly admire anyone who doesn’t let social convention get in the way of them living their life to the full. The idea of walking into a theatre by yourself can be daunting, but once you’re in the darkness everyone looks the same.
  2. Not only did she get to see the Les Mis, but by stepping outside her house she also stumbled across the fashion parade of Hopman Cup patrons.
  3. I loved the fact that she had dressed up for the date night with herself.
  4. I also admired her ability to remember the name ‘The Ponder Room’, after watching Les Mis, and her ability to track down my author Facebook page, nice to hear from you.
  5. Here’s hoping more ladies take her example, rather than sitting at home wishing and wondering how much better your life could be, if only their partners, friends or anyone would join you.

Hats off to you dear lady, may you have many more great nights out spurred on by last minute ticket purchases.

  1. What a beautiful story and congratulations to the beautiful lady in stepping out and looking as though she could have joined the pretty people attending the ball. What a pity the days appear to have gone where people greet each other whether accompanied or alone.
