The Ponder Room has been writing about The Hopman Cup, and particularly the Hopman Cup Ball, for several years now. Across a number of posts we’ve looked at the meal, the entertainment, the players and the beautiful diamond prizes. This year we’re taking a step to the left and recognising something or someone who often goes unnoticed … ladies of ‘a certain age’ attending the ball.

This year as the players, and VIPs arrived my eyes drifted sideways towards small groups of women who were usually standing off to one side. Everyone of them looked lovely, particularly Australian player Matt Ebden’s mother in pale blue.

As the photographer pack huddled around the glamorous young gals, I kept watching these ladies. They looked dignified and poised in their outfits, one of which was self-created.

They also looked relaxed and happy, emotions missing from some of their younger counterparts. I thought they warranted a post of their own.
As I watched on I pondered …
- I hope I can look as happy, relaxed and glamorous at their age;
- I wonder which age group was going to have the best night out?
