Fly strip doorThe first thing I noticed was the old coloured fly strip in the doorway. This helped position the café as a Tuck Shop. The multi-coloured strips instantly conjured up images of fresh homemade food.

Hanging Gardens
The next thing I noticed were the plants hanging from the ceiling. I have no idea how they do this.

Meals on Wheels redefined
In a cute twist the tables were on rollers bringing a whole new meaning to the words ‘Meals on Wheels’.

Frequent Buyers Campaign
The key feature that I was the most interested in was a board hanging on one wall. The board included lots of what looked like punch cards. They looked like punch cards because they were. Frequent customers had their coffee card punched and then placed them on the board.

Food
Since it was 3.30pm and they close at 4pm I just had a hot chocolate and cake. Both did the trick to fill the space between lunch and dinner. While I didn’t get to taste any of the other food, what I saw in the display cabinet looked good. I’ll be back that’s for sure.

Service
The service was far superior than any group of tuck shop ladies from my childhood. There was that friendly family atmosphere, even when they were getting ready to close up.

The Tuck Shop is a top little place to drop into on an afternoon and I’m sure it would be great for breakfast.
