For six months sandgropers (Perth residents) hibernate, only to emerge ready for the festive season most of which will be spent outdoors. This year one of the first nods to our outdoor lifestyle was the re-opening of Rooftop Movies.

Growing up in Perth meant piling into your parents or friends parents Stationwagon and heading down to the local Drive-In. Loaded up with popcorn and ice creams we’d fight for prime position of lying down in the back of the wagon. The movie was often irrelevant, it was the whole experience that sent us home with a smile.
So too the Rooftop Movies (smiling I mean, not the lying down part), which I’m thrilled to say is getting another run this year.
The opening party was a fun night of pizza, wine, and flamingos. Held on Halloween night, the Roe Street Car Park was soon covered with a diverse collection of people, who ended their night watching Saturday Night Fever. As I left I saw the sorry sight of a flamingo who was looking a little worse for wear having lined up one too many drinks.

One of the good things about Rooftop Movies is that you can catch up on the films you’ve missed out on during the year. As I looked at the list of movies I pondered which ones I’d be seeing and settled on:
Son of a Gun – Saturday Nov 22nd
2,000 Days On Earth – Wednesday Nov 26th
These Final Hours – Wednesday Dec 3rd
What If – Wednesday Dec 10th
Make sure you grab a wood fired pizza while you’re there.
Rooftop Movies run weekly from Tuesdays to Sundays on level 6 City of Perth Roe Street Car Park in Northbridge. For information about this years films go to https://www.rooftopmovies.com.au/
