Pre-show twenty minute quality meal challenge (Mr Munchies Sushi)

2

Have you ever found yourself starving and looking for a quality evening meal with only twenty minutes to go before the show starts? Impossible you say, especially in Perth which has been hammered in the past for it’s customer service. Well I have on far too many occasions, the most recent during the 2014 Perth Comedy Festival, but I’ve found the perfect solution.

Anyone who went to any of the Perth Comedy Festival shows at The Astor in Beaufort Street knows how great it was. They would also know how packed all the Mt Lawley restaurants were before the gigs.

In years gone by I’ve gone to Grill’d for one of their bulging burgers, I’ve even blogged about Grill’d once or twice. On Comedy nights though it’s almost impossible to get a seat in their restaurant and try as I might I still haven’t perfected eating a burger standing up. Besides a certain school teacher drilled it into us that it’s not a great look, especially when you’re wearing your best party frock. This meant Grill’d was off.

So too was Gelare ice cream. Sure their service is brilliantly quick and the product delicious, but I couldn’t have ice cream for dinner … could I? No.

Instead I wandered to the rear of Arcade 669, where these restaurants were.
The third was Mr Munchies Sushi which opened in October 2012. With only twenty minutes to eat and get to the show I didn’t like my chances, especially considering my usual pit stop on the way.
The challenge was set.

I’ve spent over 20 years measuring customer service for a myriad of organisations and I can say that Mr Munchies far exceeded the challenge. They found me a table, had the meal in front of me in minutes, finalised the bill and I was out of there. They even remembered me the second night and made a point of making sure I got a table quickly.

Sitting in the magnificent Astor theatre with a satisfied belly, I pondered how wonderfully fresh the food was. The range of dishes was only limited by your imagination as they offered a three step process where you pick the base, topping and sauce
I highly recommend Mr Munchies Sushi and plan to go back when I can take the time to really enjoy the food.

  1. We have spotted this place but haven’t been, grilled is a popular spot for us, however the last two times at the Astor we have been to the Planet Cafe, slow service, awesome food. Mind you something must be amiss as every time they have had different staff?
