The mother of all beach BBQ’s (Dreaming big at the Margaret River Gourmet Festival 2013)

The invites have gone out, the steaks and snaggers bought, and the BBQ’s cranked up, you’re all set for this years BBQ season. Spare a thought then for Naomi the organiser of last year’s inaugural Margaret River Gourmet Festival. Thousands of people descended on her for the weekend. The result was a massive success and a great example of what happens when you dream big.

Last years festival was a huge success with all the famous name chef’s singing the praises of both the event and the local produce.

The whole event was a stunning piece of marketing for the South West, and a great example of how, if managed correctly, the benefits for one area can spin off to aid a whole region, indeed a whole state.

‘We were delighted with the inaugural launch last year and can’t wait to develop an even bigger and more exciting program’, said event organiser Naomi Wilson.

With the likes of Heston Blumenthal amongst the 25 names confirmed for this year, and ticket prices starting at just $38, it looks like Naomi may get her wish.

On November 22-24th this year, I’d ponder that all roads will be leading to Margaret River.

If you are making your way down south, can I suggest you don’t eat all week in the lead up, and ponder life ‘sans licence’ before you race down the highway. There’ll be plenty of speed cameras along the way.

Oh and if you’re planning an event yourself, perhaps take a moment to ponder the bigger picture … how much more effort would it take to make your event help those beyond your immediate brief?
