An impossible Halloween request (Stirling Library)

Late yesterday afternoon I was minding my own business at Scarborough Library sifting through copious internet sites when I was beset upon …

Hearing some low pitched mumbling behind me, I looked up to see about a dozen primary school aged urchins gathering at the front desk. Several wizards, some gools and a ghost huddled around their two adult supervisors. The library, unprepared for such an eventuality, was a treat-free zone, which meant only one thing …

‘Scare people…quietly’, whispered the male supervisor. An impossible request surely, but one of the best lines I’ve heard in years.

It took all my concentration to keep looking at the screen and not giggle, as the library was overrun by 12 confused munchkins, moving at a half run half walk pace, not quite sure what they were meant to do.  Were they allowed to scare people, or did they have to be quiet?

As they approached me I flinched which was all they needed.

Zeroing in on a willing victim, they booed, yelled and giggled on their way past. The ghost was particularly terrifying.

Hats off to the City of Stirling OSHC After School Care team for the initiative, so too the Scarborough Library staff for letting them in … a great example of Community Spirit in action.
