Ponder this … you’re a writer/director who’s won several awards for your short films, including a Best Short Film at the AFI Awards and Cannes Film Festival. You’ve secured funding for your first full length feature movie from ScreenWest and others. Top actors have come onboard including the much sought after Ewan McGregor. You’re around half way through filming, things are going well and then you hear the forecast… thunderstorms for the next few days. So how would you feel?
If Avery was stressed he certainly didn’t show it the other night when he dropped into Flickerfest to introduce his short film, Yardbirds.

Also there was Nash Edgerton who introduced his hilarious six minute film The Captain, check it out it’s fantastic.

With them was Matt Nable from Bikie Wars and Underbelly fame, somehow managing to look cool and relaxed in a smart suit on a warm night, how do they do that? I sometimes ponder whether actors were born sans sweat glands … but I digress.

The crime thriller, Son of a Gun, will be filming in WA for a few more weeks before moving to Melbourne. If Avery’s Yardbird is anything to go by I can’t wait to see Son of a Gun.
Driving home that night, Avery’s beaming smile had me pondering once again about the secret to job satisfaction?
No doubt the answer includes something about: following your passion; having a go; being surrounded by good people and throwing in a superstar. Perhaps Avery’s earlier comment goes some way to explaining it ….
‘Combining the exceptional calibre of Australian actors with award wining international talent is going to be a privilege.’
Or maybe it’s a beard thing.
Stay tuned for more posts about this movie.
