For many years now a question has plagued me … usually the question arises when I’m driving up the scenic West Coast Highway. To my left is an endlessly brilliant blue sea, my right a row of multi-million dollar homes. It always puzzles me that no matter what time of day or night, you never see anyone sitting on the balconies of these homes. While society has us striving for this ideal, the question remains … do you really need a beachside mansion to be happy?

My consumer behaviour training suggests that if you’ve going to build such an opulent statement-home on a heavily used coastal drive, a small part of you wants to be seen, and yet what I see is a string of ghost homes, not a movement in sight.
Contrast this with the few remaining rundown rental properties dotted amongst the mansions. Nearly every time I drive past, particularly at sunset, there is a massive party taking place. So too it was on Australia Day when I stumbled upon this house, complete with home-made slippery slide.
So who, I’m left to ponder, has it right? Who is getting the most enjoyment out of life? Do you really need a mansion, or indeed a pristine front lawn to be happy?

Maybe one doesnt need a mansion and a mortgage
to have fun Seems as if its more fun when
everything is run down and life is care free a
It sure seemed that way when I drove by. Not sure I’d want to be in their shoes (or heads) the next morning though 🙂
