Why is it important to preserve your inspiration during execution? (PFF Design Capsule 2)

When I read that Designer Capsule 2 included a collection called Seaside Sanctuary I pondered … would a sea turtle or a blue whale make an appearance, similar to the squid in Design Capsule 1? Thankfully apart from wonderfully whimsical designs, Designer Capsule 2 provided a perfect case study on what happens when creatives don’t lose sight of their original inspiration during the laborious, draft and redraft, execution phase.

All too often whether writing, painting, designing fashion, new products, an ad campaign or brochures, the original inspiration gets lost.
Sometimes it gets beaten into submission by committees, the people holding the purse strings, or the ticking clock.
Other times it just drifts off somewhere between draft 10 and sheer exhaustion.
But what if it didn’t?
What if you held on to it, stayed true to the original idea, what then I’d ponder … Steph Audino’s designs gives us a clue …

Steph Audino is known for her attention to detail and romantic designs. Usually motivated by her travels and everyday surroundings, her latest collection Seaside Sanctuary was inspired by the captivating nature found in and around the ocean. Like the image above I’ll let the following photos speak for themselves.

So why is it important to stay true to your inspiration? Well you might just achieve something clean and inspirational in itself. These delicate floating images will now act as an inspiration for me … every time I feel an idea slipping away I’ll ponder the ease with which these designs convey their intended message.

Also on the Capsule 2 bill was Kim Barton who was making her PFF debut since launching her label this year, and Garth Cook who provided a flirty contemporary playfulness to the night. See images below.
