A few weeks ago I was given a reminder that you never know when someone might be watching. Thankfully they must have been looking at the right time, and not when I was head down in a tub of chocolate ice cream, or racing through Bunnings in paint splattered tracksuit pants, on a quest for artic beige fence paint. As a result I found myself holding a letter saying I’d been nominated for this year’s Telstra Business Women’s Awards. What the … !
Hang on maybe it’s a scam …
While I’m fortunate to work with some wonderful clients, my company is nothing like the monolithic corporations I’d always seen listed in business awards.
A quick call to Telstra revealed that this was one occasion where ‘size didn’t matter’, and I had indeed been nominated.
I’m relaying this story for two reasons:
-
To publicly thank the client who nominated me
-
To pay it forward … if you know a business woman, large or small (that’s her business size not her wardrobe preference), definitely think about nominating them next year.
While I’m under no allusions about getting to the finalist level, I’m utterly thrilled with the experience so far. As a nominee you work through a very thought provoking review of your progress to date. This is at times challenging (especially the financials) but ultimately rewarding when it unearths some new ideas.
In addition you become part of a fantastic alumni of inspirational business women throughout Australia. Many, many thanks to the person who nominated me. I’ll definitely be on the look out for someone to nominate next year and hope you will too. Maybe you now someone already and would like to give them a public high five by writing a comment about them?
