As a young boy, illustrator James Foley doodled away while reading children’s books and dreaming of the day he’d hold his own book in his hands. Many trips were made to the Fremantle Children’s Literature Centre at the old Fremantle jail to help him refine his craft.

The Last Viking (for ages 5 – 8) is the tale of Josh a little boy who, after hearing tales of Viking battles from his grandparents, learns how brave he really is when he comes face to face with real life trouble, in the form of some local bullies.
Thankfully like Josh, James had the courage to keep going when faced with doubt part way through.

You never know when someone’s going to come into your life and change it for ever.

There are few times when you can say ‘dream on’ and not be insulting someone. I hope that James and Norman keep dreaming and being courageous. It sounds like we might be lucky as James has just been signed for two more books.

I must say I like his choice of character name 😉 Great piece.
You know I thought someone might make that comment 😉
Haha, he is so cute too. The illustrations look lovely.
Hi Glennys,
That sure is a wonderful piece and a great review and I wish to thank you for it most sincerely. I also like your quote, ‘Norman was slogging away building up an impressive portfolio of books.’ I never thought of it like that, but it appeals.
Sales are off to a great start, so here’s hoping we conquer Europe, with your help.
Skol, Norman Jorgensen.
My absolute pleasure Norman. The Ponder Room is all about living life positively so the underlying themes of your book fit perfectly. More than happy to help. All the best with the sales. If I can help with any other books let me know.
PS All authors have a ‘slog’ period don’t they?? 🙂
