How long does it take you to put your makeup on in the morning, 5 minutes, 20, an hour and a half? And how many people are usually involved?

In 2008 Bobbi Brown gave the following One-Minute Make-up Guide in The Times of London.

Step One: Apply moisturizer, eye cream and lip balm
Step Two: Dip finger in concealer. Dab under eyes, in inner corners and on upper lids.
Step Three: Cover any blemishes with foundation stick
Step Four: Dip finger in cream blush and apply to cheeks and lips.

In Australia recent road safety campaigns would suggest we too have a penchant for rapid make-up application. At one stage our telelvision screens were filled with ads reminding us about the dangers of applying make-up while driving. A quick swipe of mascara can result in a follow up swipe of your credit card at the repair shop.

Meanwhile in 2008 Michael Kingsley reported in the Washington Post that Hillary Clinton spent an hour and a half in getting ready in the morning, that’s hair, make-up and dressing, not reading documents etc.

While doing the rounds of Sexpo I was privy to what happens in an hour long make-up session.

It’s purely speculation on my part I know, but somehow I don’t think this is what was happening behind closed doors with Hillary, nor Margaret Thatcher or Julia Gillard for that matter.

Still good to see this young woman is keeping her (playing) cards close to her chest. With that insight she too may one day become Prime Minister.
