The 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, got me pondering about the things I was able to do today, that I probably couldn’t have done 100 years ago.

This is what I came up with over a long lunch with four wonderful female friends.
-
Go out without a chaperone
-
Go out wearing trousers, no corset or bra (should your body type permit)
-
Drive myself to the lunch date, park the car and walk to the restaurant by myself
-
Have lunch with four female friends; a doctor, a lawyer, a public servant administrator and a real estate agent
-
Enter a bar and drink alcohol in a public place
-
Pay for myself
-
Laugh raucously in a highly unladylike fashion
-
Speak publicly about unmentionable topics including the vagaries of the opposite sex
-
Enter a casino and place a bet
-
Voice my opinions in print, and worldwide
Oh and celebrate International Women’s Day.
Thank you to all the women past and present who made this possible.
What about you, did you get up to anything special?

Oh my goodness, great list, and thank goodness I was born in this century. Oh well actually of course I was born last century … but you know what I mean. I celebrated with a bunch of fellow mums on a girls’ night out with plenty of #5 and #7 from your list.
Brilliant idea! I think we need to continue making full use of all the privileges those before us fought so hard to establish, especially # 5 and 7
I squandered the day……but even tht felt powerful.
I really wish I had worn the traditional dress of the suffragette – as shown in the black and white picture in this post!
darn!
Squandering is good, and heaps better than going down to the stream to bash clothes against a rock. There’s always next year for the dress jac
